August 27, 2010 – Miami Gardens, FL – A Miami Gardens pastor is recovering in the hospital after being struck by a hit-and-run driver still at large.
Pastor Luis Gordon is lucky to be alive according to reports from CBS4 News after he was pinned by his own ice cream truck. The pastor was pulled over on the side of 27th Avenue and 191st Street in Miami Gardens to reattach the rope he was using to tow his broken-down ice cream truck.
Pastor Gordon’s wife Cynthia was at the scene with her husband and witnessed the crash which took place on the night of August 23rd. An unidentified driver slammed into the back of the ice cream truck, pinning Pastor Gordon between the truck and his SUV. Cynthia described the vehicle as a small tan or silver car with damage to the front end.
After the crash, the other car backed up, Pastor Gordon said he made eye contact with the driver and asked him to help, but he fled the scene. Pastor Gordon was transported to a local hospital where he is recovering from broken ribs and broken blood vessels in his leg.
According to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles’ 2009 Traffic Crash Statistics Report, there were 197,214 traffic crashes resulting in injury and 2,563 fatalities as a result of vehicle accidents in Florida.
