August 16, 2010 – South Bay, FL – After the right rear tire of their 2002 Ford SUV blew out, the Frometa family was faced with the tragedy of losing their young son as well as recovering from their own injuries.
August 15th marks a tragic afternoon for driver Willmar Frometa, 38, of Lakeland and his two other sons, Aaron and Ayden. The family was involved in a fiery crash that resulted in the death of 9-year-old Donovyn Frometa, Willmar’s third son.
According to the Sun-Sentinel and Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, the tire blew out while the vehicle was traveling on the northbound side of U.S. 27 near mile marker 59. Willmar lost control and crossed into the median, flipping the SUV over before it came to a rest and burst into flames.
Willmar and his 2 surviving sons were able to escape, but Donovyn lost his life as a result of the car accident. The SUV accident shut down portions of the highway while investigators cleaned up the site. The surviving Frometa family members were airlifted to Delray Medical Center and listed in critical condition.
