Boca Raton Rollover Crash Causes Chemical Spill on I-95 North

August 27, 2010 – Boca Raton, FL – A box truck carrying 5-gallon drums of resin and acetone was involved in a 3-vehicle crash that caused some of the chemicals to be released onto the street.

The Palm Beach Post reports that the closure of 2 outside lanes on north I-95 near Congress Ave on August 23rd was due to a multi-vehicle accident involving a pool cleaning truck, a box truck, and a car. During the incident, the box truck rolled over, causing some of the drums it was carrying to fall from the vehicle.

Resin was spilled onto the 2 highway lanes and 5 crews contained the spill to prevent it from running into nearby storm drains. Cleanup crews worked from 3 p.m. to nearly 7 p.m. to clean up the spill and reopen the 2 lanes.

According to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles’ 2009 Traffic Crash Statistics Report, there were 197,214 traffic crashes resulting in injury and 2,563 fatalities as a result of vehicle accidents in Florida.
