Bicyclist Dies from Lake Worth Bike Accident Injuries

August 19, 2010 – Lake Worth, FL – Bike accident victim Jeffrey Gene Record, 53, of Palm Springs passed away nearly a month after he was struck by a car while on his bicycle. 

The Palm Beach Post reports that Record was riding on a sidewalk along the 2200 block of 10th Avenue North on July 15 when he crossed the path of a car making a right-hand turn out of a driveway. Jacelyn Granda, 24, of Jupiter was the driver of the car who said she didn’t see Record at first and continued turning onto 10th Avenue, striking the cyclist and pulling him under the car. 

Record was transported to Delray Medical Center with serious wounds. He passed away on August 7 from his bike accident injuries. The police report cited Record for failing to yield the right-of-way, causing him to collide with the car. No announcement has been made regarding whether any charges will be assessed in connection with the fatal bike accident. 

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s 2008 Florida Crash Statistics, there were 2,978 fatalities as a result of car accidents in Florida.
