May 19, 2010 – Palm Beach – Millionaire and Polo Club founder John Goodman was released on bond today after his early morning arrest on charges of 1 count DUI manslaughter with failure to give aid, and 1 count vehicular homicide.
The Palm Beach Post reports that Goodman faces charges for the death of Scott Wilson, 23 of Wellington in a February car crash when Goodman’s Bentley broadsided Wilson’s Hyundai Sonata.
According to the sheriff’s reports, Goodman was traveling south on 120th Avenue around 1 a.m. on Feb. 12 when he ran a stop sign at Lake Worth Road. Goodman hit Wilson’s car, sending the Hyundai into a nearby canal where it flipped upside down and sank in the water. Wilson drowned inside the vehicle.
Official reports said Goodman was found at a resident’s home a few hours after the fatal accident where alcohol was smelled on his breath. The blood-alcohol test level was 0.177, more than twice the legal limit.
Investigations found that Goodman had been drinking at two night clubs just before getting into his Bentley GTC alone the night of the fatal crash.
While awaiting trial, Goodman will be restricted from drinking, driving or patronizing bars. He is also required to surrender his passport. If convicted, he could face up to 30 years in prison.
